What Happened?
On June 14, 2015, our client (which we will refer to as “Student”) was a front seat passenger in a van that was traveling south on Interstate 81. As the van was exiting the highway at exit 85, the driver of the van failed to slow down enough to steer through the right curved exit ramp safely. The driver lost control and drove off the left side of the ramp into the grassy median. The van continued through the grassy median and came upon the ramp from SR-934 north that caused the van to overturn when it hit the lip of the ramp. The van rolled about five times and stopped at the bottom of a ravine off of the ramp.
Student and the driver of the vehicle were transported to Hershey Medical Center for evaluation. A passenger sitting in the rear (also a Case Handler client – you’ll just have to wait for another Tuesday) was ejected out the driver’s side rear window and was flown by Life Flight to Hershey Medical Center. As a result of the single car accident, Student suffered injuries to his head and lower back that made prolong sitting or walking very difficult. Student attended physical therapy 3 times a week and received 2 lumbar injections to help manage his pain.
